The growth of Nanoscience will certainly foster the development of the so-called Nanotechnologies. In 2006, the Federal University of the ABC (UFABC) was created within the context of an expansion plan led by the Ministry of Education (MEC). In March of 2007 UFABC submitted applications to CAPES for the opening of new graduate level programs. One of these programs was a multidisciplinary offering called Nanosciences and Advanced Materials. Two years after the opening of this program several master thesis have been successfully completed, and the future looks very promising. This article tells the story of the conception of the graduate programs at UFABC, with special emphasis on the Program in Nanosciences and Advanced Materials.Downloads
