Abstract

The purpose of this study is to present the pioneering experience of the Project for Technological Innovation for Animal and Plant Health in promoting the organization of Professional Master Programs in Animal and Plant Health in Brazilian universities during the period 2008-2012. Three such master programs were organized and implemented in federal universities (UFV, UFRB, UFMG). Three other universities (UFPR, UFRA, UFES) are preparing their proposals for the creation of similar programs. Data and information for the preparation of this study came from interviews with the Coordinators of the Master Programs in all of these universities. The main beneficiaries of this initiative are public institutions, such as the Secretariat of Agricultural, Animal and Plant Health of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, and the State Secretariats of Agriculture.
