This article discusses research and graduate study in the technological fields. It reviews a paper already published and then analyzes problems in the implementation of technological research in Brazil, in enterprises as well as in appropriate institutes. The article presents suggestions regarding the development of technologists on a doctoral level and offers recommendations that are applicable to funding agencies. It also summarizes relations with respect to the National Plan for Graduate Education 2005-2010 and the Law for Technological Innovation.
