Scientific publishing and “academic productivism”: is there any light at end of the tunnel?

Abstract

The paper presents the strategy developed by the Capes Psychology Committee to assess the scientific production of Graduate Programs. The proposal consists of establishing quantitative limits to each Program’s bibliographic production, based on the number of its permanent faculty members, in order to favor a more qualitative assessment of these outcomes. The comparison of indicators of the last two Triennial Evaluations suggests, as a tendency, the effectiveness of the procedure. The characteristics and the limitations of this strategy for the evaluation of graduate Programs are discussed.
