INFORMATIONAL LETTERING AND SOCIAL MEDIA
AN EXPERIENCE WITH ELDERLY PEOPLE FOR INFORMATIONAL COMPETENCE IN IDENTIFYING FAKE NEWS

The elderly are considered digital immigrants because they had to learn to deal with digital technologies during their emergence and are therefore more vulnerable to fake news. This article is an experience report made with a focus group of elderly people about the creation and realization of an Extension Course of media and informational training that aims to develop the subjects' informational skills in order to avoid the spread of fake news. The eight participating subjects have an average age of 74 years and previously used tools such as Whatsapp and Facebook. At the end of the course, there is an improvement in the information relationship, in the application of search strategies and in the information sources used by the public.
