Abstract

This research had the objective of studying the adequacy of the information science collection in the Capes Portal, through bibliometric analysis. The article presents the recent evolution of scientific journal collections in Brazil, from the first journal acquisition programs, to the first consortium for the acquisition of electronic journals, and finally to the Capes Portal. Next, the article discusses criteria in the literature used to determine the inclusion of new titles in a collection. Results of the study show that the information science collection in the Capes Portal contained just 45% of the articles cited, which indicates that it can be enlarged to better attend to the needs of its users. The study recommends the use of bibliometric analysis as one of the criteria for selecting new titles for inclusion in the Portal.
