FEMALE REPRESENTATION IN GRADUATE STUDIES IN THE SOUTH OF THE STATE OF AMAZONAS

Abstract

The representation of students in the Graduate Program in Science and Humanities Teaching at the Federal University of Amazonas is significant both in quantitative and qualitative terms. In this sense, the purpose of this paper was to focus on the female presence in stricto sensu Graduate studies in the South of the State of Amazonas, more specifically in the city of Humaitá, Brazil. For this study, bibliographic research was conducted, interviews via Google Forms, documents from the Federal University of Amazonas and internal documents from the Graduate Program in Science and Humanities Teaching. For analysis, the qualitative methodology based on the results obtained from the interviews, in the documentation and bibliography on the subject was followed. As main results, it is pointed out: qualification to work in Basic Education; strengthening and visibility of the category; greater participation and demand from the State in the creation of public policies; importance of a Master’s course in the hinterlands of the State of Amazonas. Not all Master’s students received support to carry out their research; thus it was emphasized the importance of this benefit for the development of research and studies. Finally, it was concluded that the Master’s degree in the hinterlands has become an opportunity and a tool for inclusion, qualification and citizenship, especially for women who work as educators.
