This work summarizes part of the results of a survey conducted in the University of Brasilia PhD Program, concerning the teaching of bioethics in graduate education. Data were collected from the databases of CAPES. 199 interdisciplinary graduate programs and 691 Master and Doctorate programs from the health field were evaluated. It was found that only 2 (1,0%) graduate programs focus on the development of bioethicists, 163 (23,6%) programs offer Bioethics courses, another 32 (4,6%) present modules on Bioethics, and in 36 (5,2%), the teaching follows the deontological tradition. It was found that most courses with disciplines of bioethics are concentrated in Federal Institutions, with the number of course hours reaching an average maximum of about 25, and the Bioethics Principalist Theory appears as the dominant framework for teaching. The collected data make it evident that graduate education in Bioethics is still under development in Brazil, since there are not any courses regarding Ethics or Bioethics in 460 (66,6%) of the evaluated programs.Downloads
