The Professional Master's in Geography Teaching is a stricto sensu postgraduate program that is part of the Professional Master's Program for Basic Education Teachers of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel, a public policy whose objective is the continued training of teachers working in Basic Education, primarily in the public network. This text aims to describe and analyze the first steps of the Professional Master's Degree in Geography Teaching from its implementation in 2022 to the conclusion of the first class in 2024. Based on the memories of those who lived through the process of institutionalizing the program, the records in the official documents and the instruments used to evaluate the course by the graduates, it discusses its pathways, its organization and pedagogical structure, its advances and achievements, as well as its strategies and challenges for the next four years. The information collected and the reports obtained in the self-evaluation process, both by the graduates and by the teachers and students present at the 1st National Meeting of the Professional Master's in Geography Teaching, allow us to affirm that the program has been fulfilling its objectives, providing quality training, contributing to the teaching of geography and to the improvement of Brazilian Basic Education.
