This article deals with the issue of dropout ideation in higher education, especially in postgraduate programs. The context that frames the topic is that related to the occurrence of the COVID-19 pandemic. The research problem can be described as follows: how are abandonment ideation related to the concerns and difficulties faced by postgraduate students at Federal Higher Education Institutions in the state of Minas Gerais during the pandemic? To answer this question, the general objective was to find correlations or causal relationships between the profile of abandonment ideation and the concerns and difficulties experienced during the pandemic. The chosen approach was quantitative, with field research using a survey technique and data analysis using descriptive and inferential statistics. An online questionnaire was administered to all students in stricto sensu postgraduate programs (master's and doctorate) at the 11 Federal Universities in Minas Gerais, in addition to holding roundtables with students who answered the questionnaire. The convenience sample consisted of 696 participants. The conclusions pointed to the predominant presence of abandonment ideations derived from the physical and mental health situation, differing from the main predictors present in most studies.
