Overview Of Gender Asymmetries In Teaching At The Federal University Of Espírito Santo

Analysis Focusing On The Alegre Centers

Abstract

The article investigates gender asymmetries in teaching at the Federal University of Espírito Santo, focusing on the Education Centers in Alegre. Despite the increase in female participation in higher education, inequalities persist in the occupation of academic spaces, reflecting historical and cultural patterns. The research analyzed data from the Federal University of Espírito Santo Office of Personnel Management to map the gender distribution among faculty members. The results show that although the number of female professors has increased, segregation by field of knowledge remains: women predominate in the Humanities and Health Sciences, while men are the majority in Exact and Technological Sciences. Even in Centers with seemingly balanced distribution, there are disparities between departments. The study concludes that gender equity in university teaching has not yet been achieved and proposes institutional actions such as encouraging female participation in underrepresented areas, mentorship programs, and combating stereotypes, aiming for a more inclusive academic environment.
