Abstract

The Brazilian Federal Agency the Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (Capes) merits national and international recognition for its role in the induction, development and evaluation of the National Graduate Education System. With the Federal Law n.11502, of July 2007, the Agency assumed a new and challenging mission in basic education: induce and support the undergraduate and lifelong education of teachers and their valorization at all levels and in all forms of education. In only three years, the “new” Capes has undertaken important actions in the area, in conjunction with Brazilian higher education institutions and other agencies of the Ministry of Education (MEC), through two specific boards that deal, respectively, with Basic Education and Distance Education. This article presents the main actions developed and their potential interaction with the graduate level, nowadays insufficient, but that will directly benefit higher education and development in Brazil.
