The need for evaluation has definitely arrived in academia. However, the difficulty intrinsic in the evaluation of the quality of scientific production favors the use of quantitative strategies that, although operationally viable, generate dissatisfaction, not only because they suffer from inherent weaknesses, but also because they are perceived as being propelled by (and the consequence of) competition. Without intending to resolve the issue, this paper presents a proposal for evaluating academic output. Although still centered on quantification, the suggested approach is applicable to each field of knowledge and can serve to minimize the fragilities of current systems focusing on the publication of international articles. By valuing other dimensions of academic work, the proposal can contribute to regaining the researcher’s self esteem and, as intent and consequence, increase levels of productivity.Downloads
