University professors’ perception of the repercussions of their work on their own health

Studies on the teaching activity point to a work overload that can lead to illness. This research aimed to identify and analyze the repercussions of the teaching practice on the health of professors from the Health field. A qualitative approach was used, with nine professors. Data were collected by means of a semi-structured interview and analyzed by the Bardin content analysis technique. The negative impacts of teaching on the professors’ health stood out in the results, with stress being the most significant of them. Work overload and demands appear as the main triggers of these impacts. It is necessary to generate changes to promote the health of the academic community.
