Abstract

This article presents the self-assessment proposal carried out in the Graduate Program in Informatics at the Federal University of Paraná, with regard to the “social impact” of the program. This self-assessment was based on a pilot research (survey) carried out at the PPGInf doctorate, with students and graduates, in which they are directly asked what their social performance was; the main results are exposed and commented here. The article also discusses the notion of “social impact” in sociological and epistemological terms, arguing that it is both vague and difficult to implement; thus, in order for graduate programs to be able to self-assess, they must replace “social impact” with “social performance” (from the PPGs themselves, from the student and teaching bodies, from research groups).
