(Des)igualdade de gênero na carreira acadêmica o impacto da maternidade
##plugins.themes.bootstrap3.article.sidebar##
Academic motherhood refers to the challenges faced by women who become mothers during the period when they are moving up the academic career. This study aimed to systematize information on academic motherhood at different stages of the career taking into account the pandemic context. Through a narrative review, the results of recent research carried out on the subject in different countries were systematized, organized into five themes: gender stereotypes in the academic career, support networks in the academic context, maternal choices in the academic career, impacts of pregnancy and of motherhood in academia and academic motherhood in the pandemic context. The results indicated that there is a predominance of international studies on the subject. In the international context, public policies implemented for mother researchers do not seem to be enough to support women who are plagued by demands in relation to productivity, dedication to academia and childcare tasks, especially when they are babies. The total absence of a support network imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic brought to light the challenges that researchers who become mothers are subjected to, which, in turn, indicates the urgency of implementing public policies that support these researchers.
