Analysis of the professional performance of graduates in Dentistry in the field of Public Health

Abstract

The objective was to analyze the professional activities of graduates of the Postgraduate Program in Public Health in Dentistry at the São Paulo State University (UNESP), Araçatuba. This is descriptive research, in which the curricular information of 99 graduates was evaluated by consulting the data available on the Lattes Platform. The variables investigated were gender, location of employment, work in educational institutions and in the public health service, occupation of coordination and leadership positions, and scientific production. It was found that most graduates are female (n=60; 60.61%); operates in the Southeast Region (n=62; 62.63%); is inserted in the academic environment, exercising teaching activity in higher education institutions (n=73; 73.74%), while 31 (31.31%) graduates work in the public health service, occupying positions in health coordinators, network of health care, municipal and state health secretariats, as well as the Ministry of Health. A considerable portion of graduates (40.40%) produced at least 6 scientific articles published during the postgraduate course. The monitoring of the graduates' professional activities demonstrated the valuation of their postgraduate training, through their insertion in the labor market in higher education institutions and in the public health service in all regions of the country.
