POSTGRADUATE AND DOCTORAL TRAINING: NEW TRENDS AND EMERGING CONCERNS

The study aims to build the intellectual and social network structure of scientific communities engaged in doctoral training studies, as well as to identify emerging trends and concerns at the global level. For this purpose, we conducted a bibliometric analysis of digital data available in Web of Science and Scielo, published between 2000 and 2022, selecting journals with more than 10 publications on the subject focused on the area of knowledge, education and educational research, totaling 740 files. In the second phase, the data were analyzed using RStudio with the R package Bibliometrix. Finally, the 10 most cited articles in the period were identified and a Content Analysis was performed. The data show that the United Kingdom and Australia are the countries with the highest production on the subject. We point out as emerging trends and concerns: 1) policies and institutional cultures for doctoral training; 2) self-training and learning; 3) pedagogy of supervision; 4) processes and practices of co-mentoring and shared supervision. We conclude that the training pathways involved in the process of becoming a PhD range from teaching and honing research skills, writing and broadening understanding of the object of study, to cultural and linguistic adaptation processes, mentoring/supervision approaches, science cultures and policies, self-training, apprenticeship and health.
