The school education Apinayé in bilingual and intercultural perspective
##plugins.themes.bootstrap3.article.sidebar##
Linked to the School Education Apinayé Project from a Bilingual and Intercultural Programme Perspective, developed with the context of the Indigenous Education Observatory/CAPES, this article presents a summary of an activity that has been taking place in Apinaye society in recent years. The Apinayé belong to the lineage Macro-Jê and to the Jê linguistic family, and they inhabit the north of Tocantins, in the Bico do Papagaio region, spread over 19 villages on land that has been demarcated since 1986. The objective here is to report our experience, focusing on the intercultural and bilingual education that has been implemented in Apinayé schools since 2001. The methodology merges field work and theories on interculturality and the process of Portuguese language acquisition as a second language in consonance with the mother tongue. We reflect on reading and writing and their relationship to the everyday life of the indigenous child.
