Abstract

This article describes the action of the Master Program in the Regional Development at the Federal University of Amapá, created in 2006 in order to qualify the debate about regional development, based on border and territorial (re) configurations. The article seeks to understand the territorial dynamics of Amapá in order to improve research on the role that graduate study can perform in the production of knowledge that effectively leads to regional development. To do so, it provides an overview of the history of Amapá, leading to a discussion of the importance of the creation of the Master Program in Regional Development and of its advances and perspectives with respect to the development of the region. The results indicate that the State of Amapá is still deficient in terms of knowledge production, a problem that the said Master Program has helped, in part, to overcome.
