This article deals with issues relating to the thirty-year history of the Graduate Program in Education (PPGE) at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar) and the characteristics of its graduates during that period. To develop the study two combined methods were used. The fi rst involved the consultation of primary sources, including the documented minutes of the founding of the Program and of the most important moments of its life. In addition, the Brazilian literature on graduate study in Education was analyzed in order place the UFSCar experience in historical context. The second method encompassed the investigation of quantitative indicators pertaining to information about the career paths of students who obtained a graduate degree in Education from UFSCar during the period of 1976 to 2006.Downloads
