This is a descriptive and scientometric study that aims to evaluate the selection process of joint research projects supported by the Capes/Cofecub program. This evaluation was done considering the scientific production of involved French institutions that is indexed in Scopus database. For this analysis we considered the projects approved between 2004 and 2009. The evaluation was done based on the scientific production of the area of knowledge of the corresponding project in France and in the institution of destination. The results showed that, in general, the process has been well evaluated. However, for a considerable number of projects, in the areas of Human Sciences and Applied Social Sciences, this situation was not verified.
