This paper presents an analysis of the rejection results of sandwich scholarship undergraduate applications for the Ciência sem Fronteiras Brazilian Mobility program/CNPq, between 2012 and 2014. The main goal of this study was to propose actions aiming to reduce application rejection rates, thus increasing the number of qualified candidates. The reasons for refusal were categorized and grouped into the three eliminatory steps of the Public Calls, using a “discursive textual analysis” as an analytical tool. The study revealed that 53.3% of the denied applications could be included into categories susceptible to intervention by CNPq for improvement of the selective process.
